The Impact of FDI on Economic Growth in Developing Countries: A Case Study of Zambia [PDF] Nyangu Nqumayo
This study was carried out in order to investigate the impact of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on economic growth (GDPGR) in developing countries, and in particular, Zambia. The data used was obtained from the World Bank’s world development indicators for the period 1990 to 2020. This paper makes use of times series analysis. A unit root test was carried out in order to determine whether the data was stationary or not. Thereafter, the ARDL model was run in order to test the significance of the variables as the variables were of a mixed order, based on the unit root test results which found that one variable was stationary at level while the other variable was stationary at first difference. Additionally, a Granger-causality test was carried out in order to find out whether FDI Granger-causes GDPGR. The results showed that there was a positive relationship between FDI and economic growth in the short run, but no relationship between the two in the long run. On the other hand, the results of the Granger-causality test found that FDI Granger-causes GDPGR, while GDPGR does not Granger-cause FDI, hence there being only a one-way causality effect.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY [PDF] Joyce G. Grafilo, MA-English
The paper provides a description on the ways in which two faith-based institutions an Islamic schools maybe distinguish from Catholic schools. It identifies the extent of faith-based leadership manifested among students in terms of faith, social awareness, love, and obedience; determine the extent of the students’ character formation demonstrated by students when grouped according to schools in terms of compassion, communion, contemplation, and love for creation. The study adapts the four attributes of faith leaders of Sweeney and Fry’s model on the essence of developing students’ character which are anchored on the four core values of the O.P., Dominican Sisters. The paper uses descriptive-comparative design and a modified survey questionnaire. In total, 200 participants are involved in the study. The results show that most of the students developed the characteristics aimed to be instilled by the faith leaders. However; faith leaders need to have more programs on love, social awareness and obedience to develop student’s characters like contemplative, building a closer relationship with God and others, and being compassionate. These findings assert statements in the literature concerning the integrated nature of spirituality and its positive involvement to leader resilience. Henceforth, faith-based schools of higher institutions in Cotabato City may find spirituality useful as learning means through which they can critically examine their teaching practices. Secondly, faith leader promotes the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual well-being of learners. Faith-leaders recognition of faith and the importance of spirituality in human life is an essential perspective that represents service to members of the community. The paper suggests a further study be conducted on investigating the meaning of teachers’ spirituality and the effect this might have on their professional contributions.

Strengthening sustainable approaches and technologies, including generation of biomass charcoal briquettes, rainwater harvesting and small scale vegetable gardens. [PDF] Makhanu Maxmilla, Godfrey Shem Juma
Abstract: Across the societies, the impacts of climate change affect women and men differently. Women are often responsible for gathering and producing food, collecting water and sourcing fuel for heating and cooking. With climate change, these tasks are becoming more difficult. Extreme weather events such as droughts and floods have a greater impact on the poor and most vulnerable. As climate change turns what were already unfavorable conditions into unlivable ones, Kenya that is made up of 80% arid land, still relies heavily on rain fed agriculture. Severe water constraints and prolonged droughts have exacerbated drought occurrence due to high anomalies in precipitation resulting from climate change. Despite women being disproportionately affected by climate change, they play a crucial role in climate change adaptation and mitigation. Women have knowledge and understanding of what is needed to adapt to changing environmental conditions and to come up with practical solutions. But they are still largely untapped resource. Restricted land rights, lack of access to financial resources, training and technology and limited access to political making spheres often prevent them from playing a full role in tackling climate change and other environmental challenges. This project aims at strengthening climate action and gender equality through sustainable approaches and technologies, including generation of biomass charcoal briquettes, rainwater harvesting and small scale vegetable gardens. Rainwater harvesting primarily consists of the collection, storage and subsequent use of captured rainwater as either the principal or as a supplementary source of water. Examples exist of systems that provide water for domestic, commercial, institutional and industrial purposes as well as agriculture, livestock, groundwater recharge, flood control, process water and as an emergency supply for fire-fighting. Production of renewable biomass charcoal briquettes on small scale by households using cow manure, kitchen waste, leaves, maize stalks, rice and coffee husks using suitable digesters that are considered as an alternative renewable source of fuel. To build greenhouses on a glass modular unit containing growing medium in the form of an engineered soil layer that is closed off entirely to the natural elements. To enhance knowledge management and information sharing on drought resilience and fully engage women who we intend to be fully responsible for the management of these projects.

INFLUENCE OF CLASS SIZE ON TEACHERS TIME MANAGEMENT AND ITS IMPACT ON THE STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN KWALE COUNTY-KENYA [PDF] CALEB MBOKO WERE
Class size is a crucial factor in the classroom instruction since it determines the activities that are chosen. Activities in the classroom impact how a teacher engages with students and are critical in assessing learning quality. Class sizes in Kenya have grown over time as a result of increased population and the adoption of reforms in education aimed at making sure that all students receive a basic education. Education is a vital success factor in every economy, developed or emerging, because it is the process through which teaching and learning occur and knowledge is transmitted or passed down. Governments around the world support education to ensure that their populations are prepared with the skills and information needed to address existing and developing challenges. The statement made in the resolution of the Jomtien World Conference on Education for All in 1990, as well as the follow-up at the 2000 Dakar World Education Forum, emphasized the need of expanding access to education for all children. In Kenya, the implementation of the Free Primary Education (FPE) Policy in 2003 and the start of the Free Secondary Education Programme in 2008 more than doubled the number of students enrolled in both primary and secondary public schools. This issue has not only weakened teacher confidence, but it has also brought the topic of class size to the forefront of the country's educational and political agendas. Over the years, it had been seen that secondary public-school performance in Kwale County, Kenya, was declining. This objective of this study was to determine why performance was declining despite spirited efforts by stakeholders to support education. Further, the research sought to specifically establish the perception of students in secondary schools on their teachers’ preparedness and delivery of teaching and learning. The population was students in Kwale County represented by candidates in form four, their teachers and Principals. Therefore, it was from all 98 public secondary with 6,540 form four students and 960 Teachers and 98 principals. Krejcie and morgan (1970) table of sample size determination was used to get 364 of 6,540 students, 274 of the 960 teachers, and 29 of the 98 principals. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data through drop and pick method in the selected schools. Random sampling of respondents among form four students and teachers was carried out while purposive sampling of principals was done. Responses were gathered on a five-point Likert scale and data analysis carried out through Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. Regression analysis was carried out to establish the relationship between the independent and dependent variable. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of.83, which indicates the research instrument's high level of internal consistency, was used to establish reliability. The findings established that large classroom, have a negative influence on two important and linked parts of a teacher's profession, namely instructional time and classroom management.
