ACCESSIBILITY OF LABORATORY FACILITIES AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON LEARNERS’ PERFORMANCE IN THE LEARNING OF ELECTRICITY IN TRANS-NZOIA COUNTY, KENYA [PDF] Lilian Namwenge Mutoro
One of the main objectives of the physics curriculum in secondary schools in Kenya is to build a firm foundation for technological and industrial development. The curriculum emphasizes the practical approach in application of scientific principles and ideas in modern technology. The topic of electricity plays a pivotal role in technological advancement that is required in the 21st century. Despite the importance of the topic the performance of the students in Trans-Nzoia County has not been satisfactory over the years. The objective of this study was to determine the accessibility of the available laboratory facilities by learners in the learning of electricity in Trans Nzoia County. The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of accessibility of the available laboratory facilities by learners in the learning of electricity. This study was anchored on David Kolb’s theory of experiential learning. Descriptive survey and quasi- experiment research designs were adopted for the study. The target populations of the study were teachers of physics, form 3 students of physics, heads of schools and laboratory technicians. This provided a total target population of 888 respondents from 37 public secondary schools in Kiminini Sub County. A sample of 253 respondents comprising 4 principals, 13 laboratory technicians, 200 Form 3 students of physics and 36 teachers of physics, from 13 public secondary schools, were drawn from the target population. Samples were drawn using simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected using questionnaires, interview schedules, Physics Assessment Tests and Physics Laboratory Checklists. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The descriptive statistics used were percentages, frequencies and means. The study established that there was limited access to laboratory facilities for learning electricity by learners which influenced their performance in the subject. The study recommended that strategies should be put in place by the government and school administrators to ensure adequate facilities for learning the topic of electricity that would promote their accessibility and thus boost performance in the subject

Target detection circuit implementation for all radar environments [PDF] Mustafa Subhi Kamal
This paper introduces design and implementation using an FPGA (field programmable gate array) technique of a new method called Maximum Spike Subtraction (MSS) for Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) circuit design in radar receivers. The objective of this method is to detect targets accurately in cluttered and multi-interfering target environments. The MSS method depends on selecting the maximum sample amplitude from the input signal sampler and subtracting it from the sum of echo samples in the sliding reference cell window of CFAR. This process provides a more precise estimation of the background noise, which enables the determination of an accurate threshold for target detection. (MSS) the method is evaluated and compared with two significant methods, cell averaged CFAR and ordered statistics (OS)CFAR), to detect targets when multiple targets occur inside a clutter cloud, representing the worst radar environments. The MATLAB clutter test model was used to simulate all of these techniques and apply them to various radar environment instances.
Pitfalls of knowledge management during organizational change management and suggested solutions [PDF] Sherin Thomas, Lini Gladwin, Noman Tahir, Greeshma Eliyan
It is evident that organizations that apply knowledge management framework get benefit of the data and information required on any occasion while making sure that all elements including accountabilities, processes, technologies and governance are performing accurately. During a change in the organizational process, project, service or any other factor may result in disturbing the knowledge management framework. And once the change is managed, there are high chances that interrelationship of information might affect and do not provide appropriate results when is retrieved on different occasions. Our studies highlights the possible pitfalls faced by knowledge management framework while managing a change and proposed an extended framework to manage any change in organization. This research paper conducts a secondary research and a primary research to get the opinion of professionals while they face issues in managing KM framework during change management. This research proposed an integrated framework to be applied to manage change under KM framework so that pitfalls of KM might be reduced during an organizational change.
